Roman Minin - A triptych "Super Doors"
The main theme in the oeuvre of the acclaimed Ukrainian artist Roman Minin is the Donetsk region, its unique and all-encompassing “mining myth,” and its special mentality defined by hard work, a sense of responsibility and workers’ dignity.
The composition “Super Doors” (2017) is a part of this grand theme. Coal mining becomes a wide-ranging metaphor for “mining” meanings, ways of human existence and evolution in a dense information space where it might be exceedingly hard to tell the truth from falsehoods, and to find a trajectory of one’s own. The vocabulary of monumental art and
murals, with its essential symbolic generalizations and striking decorative nature, lends depth to these images and provokes many associations on the intersection between lived experiences and art/cultural history.
